Director of Content Strategy

Walker Sands is looking for a passionate and experienced content expert to help fuel the success of our internal content department. We are looking for someone who not only has the writing chops, but the management and strategic expertise to shape our content strategy and structure within the agency.  


The director of content strategy will serve as the operations lead for our internal content teams.  Working closely with Tim Morral, our director of editorial content, you will manage five direct reports and manage the entire content team, focusing on utilization, sales, client relations and the day-to-day oversight of our PR and digital content experts.   

While you will not be responsible for the direct production of content, you will counsel our content and account teams on strategy, planning and processes. You will also work with the director of editorial content to help ensure the quality of the content we provide for our clients.

Working out of our Chicago office, you will interact with everyone from entry-level content specialists to our vice presidents and executive team. As the director of content strategy you will advocate for the content teams, both from a strategic and operational standpoint.  We want you to champion not only the content we produce, but those who work internally to produce it. 

Expectations and Activities

  • Ensure operational excellence throughout the content department by identifying problems related to content creation and utilization, and advocating for the department as a senior voice of content at the agency.
  • Consult with PR and digital teams on content strategy and client relations, including early involvement in the sales process.
  • Manage a team of senior content strategists and serve as a day-to-day mentor for the content department.
  • Help shape the quality of our content to increase agency revenue by showcasing the value of content to clients and achieving set content metrics.
  • Provide insight and guidance regarding the content career path at Walker Sands.


  • 10+ years of experience, including both editorial/journalism and corporate content writing/strategy.
  • Agency and/or B2B experience preferred. 
  • Proven team management experience, and the ability to provide leadership for a team of experienced PR and digital content professionals.
  • Detail oriented with a passion for strategy and content development.
